Just so you guys know I have not totally abandoned the blog for the entire summer, I have decided to post a few things that bring a smile to my face and hopefully will do the same for you.
As I said a few months back, I have totally been reliving my youth through You Tube.com, and I am always finding new and interesting things that remind me of the good old days.Just last night I ran across a video from my second favorite Girl Group of the 90′s; Jade.
Just like En Vogue, Jade was an all girl Black group comprised of nothing but lead singers. Each girl was beautiful and could totally hold her own on the mic.Unfortunately, just like En Vogue, they had a very short run in the music business (less than 10 years) and were eventually replaced with the likes of 702, 3LW and the even yuckier Destiny’s Child.
Back in the early 90′s female r&b group totally ruled the planet and what a wonderful planet it was.The girls were talented and sexy, whereas today if you look good in a mid-driff shirt and can hold a mic without dropping it, you can be in a girl group. The days of En Vogue and Jade are gone, but thanks to You Tube, they will not be forgotten.
Here is my video jam of 1994: Dont Walk Away
Yeah, I just discovered YouTube myself. I found it because after watching my boyfriend put honey and cheese in his grits and overload his spaghetti with cheese and sauce, I thought I’d find that old PSA about drowning your food to help him with his obvious problems. I remember it well from my Saturday mornings in front of the tv and I thought he could benefit from its wisdom to help him in re-ordering his eating habits.
Okay, here is the link, cuz I know you are just dying to see it:
Don’t Drown Your Food
Hope you’re enjoying your summer! I’m on semi-vacation too. Too nice to stay inside all day….
nice blog and i used to LOVE Jade … i still have their CASSETTE TAPE – lol … they did justice to Do Right.
btw – saw your post and Janet is at number 72 after 3 weeks on the charts, which is on billboard.com … also, all of those are RUMORS .. i cant etch it in stone — except for her chart position – peace.
Peace Clay
Janet debuted on the charts at number 73 and moved up the following week only one spot to number 72.That makes 2 weeks. This week the new numbers will come out and we will see where Jan will be in her 3rd. week on the charts.
Trust me, I’m a Janet fan… I know her numbers
Jade was cool back in the day so was brownstone but all there careers were short lived.I love You tube you can find so many old videos from way back when and just reminice.Good stuff
Tonya (the lightskin one) said the group parted over money issues. She said after working so hard and spending so much time on the road they expected more and upon realizing they just wern’t going to make any money they broke up.
I know things were different back then, but I don’t think they should have given up so soon. They should have looked for ways to parlay that fame into something else more lucrative.
On an up note though, all of the ladies are doing well and Tonya and Di own their own businesses while Joi is singing with a gospel group.
